Foundation degree in Health and Social Care (FdSC)

Course Description

This course is a vocational qualification designed for practitioners in health and social care and focusing on either management or practice at a senior level. Students acquire the knowledge required for the National Vocational Qualifications Level 4 in Care and the Registered Managers Award.

The first level (normally one year) provides a generic foundation and students choose modules relevant to their working roles as managers or senior practitioners. Additionally, the module content covers knowledge required for three national qualifications - The Registered Managers Award (Adults) NVQ Level 4, Care NVQ Level 4, and the Higher Professional Diploma in Learning Disability Services Level 4. Assessment for one of these awards is included in the cost of the foundation degree.

The second level of the course (normally one year) offers a range of subjects relevant to the work of managers and senior practitioners in health and social care.

Study Pattern

Students spend Two days at College and Two days work
related learning at each week. A module is normally covered in three weeks of study and students produce work-related coursework for assessment. Workshops are held at Bliss College and students also undertake guided learning in a work setting in health and social care. Successful completion of the course leads to NVQ4 Care and the Registered Managers Award, both required by regulation for managers of care services.
